The principles behind the Morobe 2020 provincial budget are to improve governance, raise revenues, promote economic empowerment through agriculture, fisheries and informal sector, develop infrastructure and improve service delivery. Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu said the Morobe provincial government budget is aligned to the strategic program implementation plan of 2020-2022 financial years.
The Eastern Highlands Province passed a K320 million budget for 2020. Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu announced that the new provincial budget focus will be on transport infrastructure, the agriculture sector by which the subsistence agriculture will be refocused to commercial, the health and education sector and most importantly generating internal revenue. Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey has commended Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu for submitting the province’s budget.
Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey commended Western Governor Taboi Yoto for presenting his province’s budget of K387.5 million for endorsement by Treasury. Ling-Stuckey said Western had enormous potential to generate revenue in fisheries, forestry and rich resources in line with Prime Minister James Marape’s suggestion that each province develop its own economy.
