Education. Papua New Guinea press review
On 27 April, Papua New Guinea (PNG) institutions of higher education and on 4 May – schools resumed classes for students and schoolchildren.
Currently, schools are focused on disseminating information on teaching and learning arrangement plans to students. Lae District Education Manager Kaumu Laga said this in an interview, adding that classes should resume this week as per the directives from the National Department of Education, but schools are yet still trying to adjust to the «new normal» teaching and learning strategies, due to the coronavirus situation. In addition, six schools in Lae are yet to start because they don’t have coronavirus preventive measures in place and other COVID-19 essentials available for use.
However, teachers in National Capital District (NCD) have raised concerns on how their students will be able to commute to school given the State of Emergency orders to strictly have 15 passengers on each public public-motor-vehicle buses. Teachers requested assistance from local authorities to provide APEC buses to transport students from the main bus stops.
