Yuri Solomin


Soviet and Russian actor, theater and cinema director, theater pedagogue, the state and public figure. The People’s Artist of the USSR. The Maly State Academic Theater of Russia art-director. Made a huge contribution into the preservation of legacy and the popularization of Miklouho-Maclay’s achievements and humanistic ideas.
He is the director and the main role actor of the film about N.N. Miklouho-Maclay “Bereg ego zhizni” (“Coast of his life”).

Valery Surin and Irma Bruni


The translator and writer Valery Surin, his wife and colleague Irma Bruni examined the fate of the Russian pioneer N. N. Miklouho-Maclay, visited Oceania, the places of his first landing at the Cape Garagasi.
The Surin family financed the old memorial renewal, the construction of a protective wall of natural coral material around the Cape, where Maclay’s hut was located in 1871–1872. The sea would wash off the Cape with the monument if they had not assisted.

Doctor of History. He graduated from the History Department of the Leningrad State University. Since 1957 he has been working at the RAS Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology. In 1971 and 1977 he was the leader of ethnographic teams of the expeditions on the research vessel “Dmitry Mendeleev”, during which he conducted field work on the Maclay Coast (New Guinea) and on other Islands of Oceania. Author of more than 300 works published in Russian, English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese

Graduated from the Leningrad University Faculty of History, Candidate and Doctor of Sciences. Author of 111 scientific works and several books, including the monograph “St. Andrew’s Flag under Crux” and “Russia and Australia in the Second Half of XIX Century” (1998).
