The revised Organic Law on the Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates is ready to go before Parliament. Registrar of political parties Dr Alphonse Gelu said he was pleased with the recent report that the government was considering to pass the revised OLIPPAC. One of the points is the quota for women candidates that must be supported and endorsed by political parties.[1]
The National Executive Council (NEC) has endorsed a bill which will be put to Parliament in next month’s session on the amendment to the Organic Law on Provincial and Local Level Governments. Authority chairman and Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs secretary Dickson Guina told, once passed, would make provincial governments autonomous.[2]
Madang is becoming like Tari-Pori, with a lot of killings, says Opposition Leader and Vanimo-Green MP Belden Namah. Namah, in a press conference this week, appealed to Police Minister and Madang MP Bryan Kramer to focus his attention on addressing law and order issues in his district.
Namah also urged Kramer to focus on developing policies to addressing police disciplinary issues within the constabulary following a growing number of police brutality complaints recently.[3]
Prominent Madang resident Sir Peter Barter says all stakeholders, including the government and people, need to work in partnership to make Madang a great place. “Madang was the model tourism province back in the day, we pioneered provincial tourist offices, the Madang Visitors and Cultural Bureau was the most effective tourist organisation in PNG in terms of development and promotion. At present, work is underway on the Madang Airport which will take another few years to complete, by this time, the Covid-19 pandemic should be solved but it is during this time we need to plan immediately to attract local travel and plan post Covid-19.” he said.[4]
Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa says he has quit the People’s Party but will remain in Government and move to the middle benches as an independent. “I have decided to move to the middle benches for political convenience to deliver better service to our people and give my political support to Prime Minister James Marape.” – he said.[5]
