Prime Minister. Papua New Guinea press review
Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea Hon. James Marape announced that a second COVID-19 case has been recorded in East New Britain. The second case is a 40-year-old female living near to the Kokopo (East New Britain Province). On 29 March 2020 the woman was admitted to Nonga Hospital. “While at the hospital, she was isolated from the other patients and her sample sent to Port Moresby for testing. The result came back positive on Monday afternoon” said Prime Minister.
Moreover, East New Britain will not be accessible ‘by land, sea or air’. According to a statement of Hon. James Marape, “A rapid response team will be deployed to the province and the entire village where she is from will be locked down as we trace her steps and check if there was transmission”. 200 test kits have already sent to East New Britain for testing on suspected cases.
“I ask our citizens and residents to cooperate and follow lawful instructions that will assist our fight against this virus and other challenges our country is faced with,” – urges Hon. James Marape.
