Journey to the Maclay Coast
Nikolay Nikolaevich Miklouho-Maclay is a native of Saint Petersburg and descendant of the great traveler who organized and led the expedition “Miklouho-Maclay XXI Century. The Maclay Coast” in the autumn of 2017. Together with Russian scientists, the descendant of the famous family visited the places where his ancestor lived and worked in the XIX century and met the descendants of the local Papuans who personally knew Miklouho-Maclay, which has given him the idea to publish the book “Journey to the Maclay Coast”.
150 years on, the history comes alive — Maclay is back!
“Journey to the Maclay Coast” came out almost a century and a half ago. This book has conquered tens of millions of people and brought up more than one generation using the personal example of the scientist Nikolay Nikolaevich Miklouho-Maclay.
Who could imagine that the journey to the Maclay Coast would repeat in the XXI century and be as thrilling and exotic as in the XIX century?
It is incredible that a full namesake and descendant of the great scientist has gone on a journey, following in the footsteps of his ancestor to the world untouched by human civilization, which the locals rightly call Paradise Coast.
From the book “Journey to the Maclay Coast” of 2018, you will learn about the history that has connected Russia and Papua New Guinea for centuries and continued so unexpectedly.
Illustrated by unique photographs, the book tells its readers how the expedition members visited a world where the Stone Age past is intricately coupled with the hi-tech realities of modern life.
In this book, you will find rare copies of the drawings, as well as excerpts from the diaries of Miklouho-Maclay made in the XIX century; you will read about the Soviet expedition in the XX century and find out how in the XXI century, almost 150 years on, a descendant of the famous family, Nickolay Nikolaevich Miklouho-Maclay Junior, was welcomed.
Packed with gorgeous illustrations, this edition will undoubtedly adorn any library – even a most exquisite one – and make a great gift for young readers, as well as for demanding bibliophiles.
